Binge Prevention Tips (Request)
I put these together, it doesn’t mean I follow them, nor does it mean I believe they always work, they were requested and I have tried to make them as health as I possibly could.
1) Don’t have TOOO low a cal intake. Somewhere in the range of 700-900 calories per day is something to be strived for, I sincerely believe (as opposed to like 400-600 cals a day). If you eat more calories every day, your metabolism will boost itself to adapt to the “heightened” cal intake, and you won’t be starving so badly that you feel the need to binge.
2) DON’T AVOID FATS. I know, I know, our society teaches us to be fat-phobic… but GOOD fats (poly and monounsaturates, NOT saturated or trans) are actually very satiating, and actually are good for you. The only reason people emphasize low-fat is because fat has more calories per gram than either carbs or protein. HOWEVER, if you eat a diet of mostly carbs, or of almost exclusively protein, you ARE eventually going to binge. As long as you’re still watching your cal intake, fat is actually really good for binge-avoidance, because fats have the effect of making you feel somewhat less hungry.
3) Have the urge to eat a lot? Eat a shitload of veggies or salad greens, with or without low caloric amounts of dip. No matter how many veggies you eat, they won’t make you gain any true weight (though they may give a bloating sensation for a time, since they have so much water and fiber in them).
4) DON’T EAT TOO MANY CARBS, especially not carbs from artificial sugars. Natural sugar carbs are better. Personally, I basically avoid most grains and also most fruits — if I don’t, especially with grains and WHITE CARBS (pasta, bagels, etc etc), I get REALLY bad binge urges. Carbs that convert quickly to glucose (starches or artificial sugars) fuck with blood sugar and make your body want more more more. Plus, if anything’s gonna store as fat, quick-absorbing carbs will. I seriously think carbs are far, FAR more evil than fat.
So in a nutshell:
- Eat good fats.
- Avoid bad fats.
- Avoid pretty much all white carbs and artificial sugars.
- Lots of veggies and leafy greens.
- Decent amounts of protein, lean or not.
- In fact, try your best to balance good fats, good carbs, and protein.
